The six tree slices in this listing were cut from a tree in the Texas Hill Country. The pieces display the irregular shapes and prominent growth rings that make this a popular wood for crafting.
The outer bark as well as the majority of the inner bark has been removed and all surfaces have been sanded.
The slices measure between 4-1/2 and 5 inches (12 and 13 cm) in diameter and all are approximately 3/4 of an inch (2 cm) thick.
The pieces are available in your choice of three finishes: Untreated, Waxed or Oiled. The final listing photograph shows a piece of mountain cedar having all thee of the finishes for comparison.
If ordered untreated you will receive the natural wood slices as they appear in the listing.
A waxed finish will exaggerate the details of the wood and provide a hard, slightly glossy, surface appearance. It will protect the piece from general handling however will not provide weather resistance.
The oiled finish will also exaggerate the wood details and will also darken the piece in general. Tung oil would be generously applied if this option is chosen, providing excellent protection from the elements.
