These petrified wood specimens are very well preserved examples of a now extinct tree species that lived around 40 million years ago. Only found in a handful of Texas counties and Louisiana parishes, Mennegoxylon jonesii is more commonly known as "snakewood", as the cell structure resembles snake skin. I collected these from a location in Brazos County, Texas where the Manning Formation was exposed.
The level of preservation seen in the pieces is higher than most snakewood specimens and the detailed cell structures are clearly visible thanks to the high silica content. At least one side of each high quality specimen has been cut and polished and they are being made available individually.
The following measurements were taken at the longest, widest and highest points in the given direction. These measurements were rounded to the closest millimeter.

Piece B measures 43 x 26 x 17 mm and weighs 1.10 ounces. It has been polished on two sides.
Piece C measures 59 x 47 x 22 mm and weighs 2.34 ounces. It has one polished face.
Piece D measures 62 x 72 x 34 mm and weighs 1.97 ounces. It has been polished on two sides.
