The King Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta) also goes by the names of Japanese Funeral Palm and palm cycad. These easy to care for and versatile plants are well suited for growing indoors or out, in planters or in the ground.

The listing photos show the four sago palms that are available, with each being assigned a corresponding letter for identification.

Plants "A" and "B" are shown growing in 3 gallon, 10 inch diameter, pots. Plants "C" and "D" are shown in their 5 gallon (12 inch diameter) containers. All measure approximately 4-1/2 inches in diameter at the base of their trunks. The lower leaves have been removed to facilitate shipping. Plant "B" shows indications that two "pups" are forming beneath the soil. All will be shipped without soil or pots.

Shipping via Federal Express to any address within the contiguous United States, with the exception of those in California, is included in the listing prices. I cannot ship these plants to destinations within California, Hawaii or the US island territories. Contact me prior to placing the order if the destination is within the state of Alaska as additional shipping fees will apply.

Not a palm at all, the King Sago is actually a cycad that has existed since prehistoric times. In ideal conditions they may reach a height of 10 feet, a width of 8 feet and can live to be 200 years of age.

Sago palms require little in the way of special care, with over watering and exposure to below freezing temperatures being the main threats to their survival. They are surprisingly drought tolerant and can go more than a month without water. They should be planted in well draining soil that is allowed to completely dry between watering. In my experience, these plants do best when provided a full day of bright indirect sunlight or direct early through midday sun. The leaves may scorch when exposed to the direct late afternoon sunlight of Central Texas. I am located in hardiness zone 8b and have had no issues growing these plants in the ground outdoors. While they do need to be protected from freezing, my King Sago Palms have survived temperatures as low as 18 degrees by simply having a blanket draped over them.
