Pine Cone Cactus, Spruce Cone Cholla Plant (5-6 Inches Tall)

$16.00

Native to Argentina, Tephrocactus articulatus var. diadematus is commonly known as Spruce Cone Cholla and Pine Cone Cactus. This is an unusual and easy to care for succulent that can grow to be 2 feet tall and will form clusters that may be several feet in diameter.

These plants have greyish-blue to greyish-brown stem segments that resemble elongated pine cones. One to three new segments appear near the ends of the older growth each year, with the plant developing sprawling branches over time. Older plants resemble a stack of pine cones that are joined end-to-end. Most of these plants remain spineless, however a few thin, white spines may occur on some individuals as they grow older.

All of the plants offered in this listing stand 5 to 6 inches above the soil and have two segments (a base stem and one branch). A portion of the plants will have a second branch beginning to develop. The listing photographs show plants representative of those that are available and are pictured growing in their 2-1/4 inch pots. Each order will contain your choice of one, two or three of the plants that will be shipped with very little soil and without pots.

These cacti require several hours of direct sun or a full day of very bright indirect light and they can tolerate temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Watering when the soil is dry during warmer months will increase their rate of growth. They should only be watered once per month when temperatures fall below 65 degrees.

PLEASE NOTE: I do not use heat packs and am not responsible for damage related to the plants being exposed to cold temperatures.
