A microcrystalline variety of quartz, chalcedony is a great material for tumbling that will not fracture like other varieties of quartz. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and a waxy luster. Agates are a type of chalcedony that display banding, and a portion of the material offered in this listing would qualify as being agate.
Colors range from clear or semitransparent white to pink and red. A faint shade of blue can also be seen in a portion of the material.
As collected, the pieces of chalcedony were too large for most rock tumblers, so they were broken into smaller sizes. These were then tumbled to remove the sharper, thinner edges as well as the outer crust or shell that once coated them. This means every order will contain more pure chalcedony with less weight loss during the tumbling process.
The pieces have been sorted into four sizes (Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large).
Small Pieces will weigh between 1/2 and 1 ounce each.
Medium pieces will have a weight of 1 to 2 ounces.
Large pieces weigh 2 to 3 ounces each.
Extra Large pieces will weigh 3 to 4-1/2 ounces.
In addition to the four standard sizes, I am also offering a mix that contains an equal amount, by weight, of Small, Medium and Large pieces.
Each order will contain 3 POUNDS of material in the selected size or 3 POUNDS of the mixed material.
The listing photos show a small portion of the material that is available. The final picture shows random pieces of this material that have completed the tumbling process.
