After dying approximately 300 million years ago at the bottom of a sea that covered much of Texas, many of the crinoids in this listing were silicified, or crystallized. Minerals slowly replaced the once living tissues of the creatures to create these very detailed casts.

Crinoids resembled plants, having a cup like structure called a "Calyx" positioned atop a stalk like body that was anchored to the ocean bottom. Small arms called "Cirri" extended from the stalk, grabbing nearby objects to further anchor the animal. Most of these stems have "cirrus scars", points where cirri emerged from the stalk, that are clearly visible. Feather-like arms extended from the calyx, capturing food as it floated by.
