Pachycereus pringlei, also known as False Saguaro, Mexican Cardon Cactus, and Elephant Cactus, is a succulent native to portions of Northern Mexico and Southern Arizona. These cacti are the largest in the world and may reach a height of over 60 feet and grow to be over 3 feet in diameter. These amazing plants are surprisingly easy to grow and are much more forgiving than true saguaro.
The listing photographs show all sides of the exact cacti that are being offered. Each has been assigned a letter for identification. The measurements below were taken on 6/10/25 and do not include the length of the spines.
Cactus A: Shown in 1 gallon pot. Stands 11 inches above the soil surface. Has a diameter of up to 2-1/2 inches.
Cactus B: Shown in 1 gallon pot. Stands 11-1/2 inches above the soil surface. Has a diameter of up to 2-1/2 inches.
Cactus C: Shown in 2 gallon pot. Stands 13 inches above the soil surface. Has a diameter of up to 3-1/4 inches.
Cactus D: Shown in 2 gallon pot. Stands 13-1/2 inches above the soil surface. Has a diameter of up to
3-1/2 inches.
As these are native to desert regions, P. pringlei prefers a hot environment with plenty of sunlight, however they are cold tolerant to around 30 degrees Fahrenheit and may be grown indoors if placed near a very brightly lit window. The plants in this listing have been grown under filtered sunlight and should be slowly acclimated if being placed in full sun. The Mexican Cardon requires soil that drains extremely well and additional nonorganic material (course sand, perlite, etc.) should be added to a standard cactus soil mix. Water no more than once every 10 days during the summer and reduce to once every 3 weeks in the fall. These cacti should only be watered once during the coldest months of the year and only once every 2 weeks during spring.
