Euphorbia tirucalli is a succulent that is commonly known as Sticks On Fire, Fire Sticks and Red Pencil Cactus. Their bright red, orange, yellow and green colored stems combine with a branching growth habit to create a striking living sculpture. They grow very quickly and are perfect for container gardens.
The exact plants being made available are shown in the listing photos. Pots "A", "B" and "C" are 1 gallon containers that each hold a single plant. Pot "D" is a 2 gallon container holding two plants that will be shipped together.
Pot A: Plant stands 1 foot, 10 inches above the soil.
Pot B: Stands 1 foot, 11 inches above the soil.
Pot C: Stands 2 feet, 1 inch above the soil.
Pot D: Plants stand up to 2 feet, 8 inches above the soil.
All are well rooted and will be shipped without soil or pots. Most of these plants are very top heavy and a heavy container, or one with a weighted bottom may be beneficial when repotting them.
There are a few things that are needed to ensure these succulents remain happy and healthy. First, they require 5 to 8 hours of very bright indirect sunlight per day or direct sunlight through midday. They must also be planted in soil that drains extremely well. A succulent or cactus soil that contains 50 -75% coarse sand by volume is ideal. These are drought tolerant plants that do not like to be watered very often. The watering schedule will be determined by your location and climate, however here in Central Texas, I only water them once per week during the warmest months of the year and once every 2 weeks during winter months. Although they may survive brief exposure to temperatures as low as 30 degrees, they should not be subjected to temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit for long periods of time.
