Chasmanthium latifolium is a perennial grass going by the common names of Inland Sea Oats, Indian Wood Oats, Wild Oats, River Oats, Flathead Oats, Upland Oats and Upland Sea Oats. The stems can grow to be 4 feet tall and they form attractive seedheads that are present for the majority of the year.
Plants representative of those that are available are shown in the listing photographs growing in their 8 inch pots. The majority of the stems stand 2 feet above the soil and some are beginning to form seedheads. The contents of one of these or similar pots will be included with each order. They will ship with a small amount of soil and without their containers.
Inland Sea Oats is a perennial in zones 5 through 9. They thrive in moist, shaded locations however will tolerate more sun if watered often. These are salt resistant, may be used to prevent erosion and can spread rapidly. They will tolerate almost any type of soil but prefer one that is loose and drains well. New growth appears in early spring and seeds are first visible late spring to early summer. The seedheads change colors throughout the year beginning deep green, turning to light green and ivory by the middle of summer and finally a golden brown in fall. They go dormant in winter and may be cut to their base to prepare for new growth in spring.
