The coral fossils in this listing were collected from a locality in Central Texas and date to the Late Carboniferous Period. Members of the now extinct order of Horn Corals (Rugosa), these corallites were preserved approximately 300 million years ago. I have provided specimens similar to those offered here to two museums that now have them as part of their collections.
There are two sets available, with each containing 10 specimens.
Each fossil in the large set measures between 1 and 1-5/8 inches in length.
The set of small fossils contain specimens having lengths of 3/4 to 1 inch.
All of these fossils are free from the rocks that once concealed them and exhibit great 360 degree detail. The photos show two sides of the exact fossils that will be shipped. As these were preserved by permineralization, a portion of the coral have preserved interior cell structures.
