Jatropha Cathartica, Rare Caudiciform Plant - Free US Shipping

Jatropha cathartica, also know as Jatropha berlandieri and Adenoropium berlandieri, is a Euphorbia that is native to the Rio Grande valley of Texas and small portions of Mexico. These flowering plants are prized by collectors and produce a large caudex, a swollen trunk that is used hold water that sustains them during periods of drought.

The first and final two listing photos show examples of how these plants may look late in the growing season. Photos two through five were taken on April 17, 2024 and show multiple sides of the exact rooted plants that are available, each identifiable using their corresponding letters.

Plant "A" has a caudex that is 2-1/3 inches in diameter.
The caudices of plants "B" and "C" measure 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 inches.

All will be shipped in their 4-1/2 inch pots with soil. Shipping charges are included, with the exceptions noted at the end of the description.

Jatropha cathartica grows to a height of around 12 inches and the caudex may reach a diameter of 8 inches. Their growing season may begin as early as February and typically lasts until November. They may bloom at any point during the growing season, however most of the bright red flowers appear during the summer months. The flowers are followed by seed pods that are green with yellow stripes. They loose all stems and leaves when dormant for the winter months.

These unusual plants are easy to grow indoors or out and a care guide will be included with each order. They will survive temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit, however may be damaged if exposed to freezing conditions. Keeping them at temperatures above 50 degrees is strongly recommended.

We do not use heat packs and we are not responsible for damage related to the plant being exposed to cold temperatures.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot ship these plants to destinations within the states of California, Hawaii, Alaska or to the US island territories.
