Vitex "Shoal Creek", 15 GALLON , Over 2 Feet Tall - US Shipping Included
Vitex agnus–castus, commonly know as Vitex Tree, Texas Lilac and Chaste Tree, is a quick growing small tree or large shrub. Introduced to the United States in the 1600's for their medicinal properties, the vitex has continued to increase in popularity due to the long bluish-purple flowers they produce during the summer months.
All of the plants in this listing were grown from seed and two representative trees are shown the second and third photos. They were photographed growing in their 15 gallon containers, stand between 24 and 30 inches above the soil and spread 24 to 30 inches in diameter. One of these trees or similar will be included with each order.
These will be shipped with a portion of their soil protecting the roots however the pots are not included. To reduce shipping costs, these will be packaged very tightly within their boxes and their branches will be compressed. After being unpacked the branches will slowly unfold.
The "Shoal Creek" variety will reach a height of 15 feet in USDA zones 6 through 10. They will die to the ground each winter in zones 4 and 5, but will return from the roots each spring and grow up to 5 feet tall in a single season. In warmer areas, flowering will typically begin in late spring. Blooms appear a month or so later in colder areas. If the flowers are removed when they fade, a second blooming cycle lasting through early fall will occur.
Plant these in any type of soil, but do not locate them in an area where water pools or stands. Provide them with full sun, at least 6 hours of direct sunlight, to get the most flowers. They will survive, but bloom much less, if planted in part shade. These are very drought tolerant once established, however watering occasionally during their first year is recommended.
