These 12 larger petrified wood pieces were collected from an area in Texas where the Yegua Formation, a geologic layer known for producing high quality petrified wood, was exposed at the surface. The trees providing the wood died approximately 35 million years ago and were preserved in great detail. The variety of colors and textures in this material make the pieces well suited for general display or use as part of any number of different craft projects.
The listing photos show multiple sides of the exact pieces in the set. The longest measures 10-1/2 inches and the shortest is 3-1/4 inches long. The heaviest piece weighs 3 pounds, 12 ounces and the lightest is 1 pound, 5 ounces. The twelve pieces have a combined weight of 28 pounds, 10 ounces. All were washed and lightly scrubbed to remove soil and other material but are otherwise as they were found.
