These unusual wood slices were created from the trunk of a Texas mountain laurel tree that had naturally spalted and display a variety of patterns and colors. Spalted wood is the result of fungal growth that occurs within a tree that has begun to decay and is highly sought after by woodworkers.
The listing photos show a portion of the pieces that are a part of this listing and they are representative of all that will be shipped. They have been allowed to dry thoroughly and no further change in their appearance should be expected.
As these slices are not perfectly round, their diameter will vary depending on where the measurement is taken. The smallest diameter on a piece will be between 3-1/2 and 4 inches while the largest measurement across a slice will be between 3-3/4 and 4-1/8 inches. While all of the pieces in this listing have similar diameters, they are available in two different thicknesses. Thinner slices will be between 1/6 and 1/4 of an inch thick while the thicker slices will measure very close to 1/2 of an inch.
