The king sago palm (Cycas revoluta) also goes by the names of Japanese funeral palm, palm cycad or simply sago palm. These easy to care for and versatile plants are well suited for growing indoors or out, in planters or in the ground.

Not a palm at all, the sago is actually a cycad that has existed since prehistoric times. In ideal conditions they may reach a height of 10 feet, a width of 8 feet and can live to be 200 years of age.

The photos show all of the exact sago palms that are being made available when this listing is published. There are four different sizes to choose from as well as options for ordering multiple plants.

There are four small size plants and they are shown growing in their 5 inch containers. They have 2 or 3 fronds that stand as high as 8 to 12 inches above the soil. Their bases measure 1 to 1-1/2 inches in diameter.

There are two medium sago palms photographed in 1 gallon pots. One has 2 fronds, the other has 5 and these reach 12 to 13 inches above the soil. The bases of both are 2-1/2 inches in diameter.

The large plant was photographed growing in a 3 gallon container. It has 5 fronds that extend as high as 16 inches above the soil. The base of this plant is 3-1/2 inches in diameter.

There is one extra large sago palm and it is shown growing in a 5 gallon pot. It has 9 fronds and has an overall height of 18 inches when planted as shown in the photos. It has a base measuring 4-1/2 inches in diameter.

These are all well rooted for their sizes and will ship without soil or pots.

Sago palms require little special care, with over watering and exposure to below freezing temperatures being the main threats to their survival. They are surprisingly drought tolerant and can go more than a month without water. They should be planted in well draining soil that is allowed to completely dry before being watered again. In our experience, these plants do best when provided bright indirect sunlight or direct early through midday sunlight. Ours have scorched when exposed to the direct late afternoon sunlight of Central Texas. We are located in hardiness zone 8b and have had no issues growing these plants in the ground outdoors. While they do need to be protected from freezing temperatures, our king sago palms have survived temperatures as low as 15 degrees by simply having a heavy blanket draped over them.

Shipping via USPS Ground or Federal Express Home Delivery to any destination within the United States is included in the listing prices with the following exceptions: We cannot ship these sago palms to destinations within the states of California, Hawaii or to the US island territories. Contact us prior to ordering if the destination falls within the state of Alaska as additional shipping charges will apply.
