Cereus Peruvianus Monstrose "Rojo" - Free US Shipping

$45.00

The monstrose form of Cereus repandus is an unusual succulent that forms a dense mound of green to bluish-green stems that are decorated with reddish-brown spines. There is some debate over the exact scientific naming of this curious looking cactus as the precise origins are unknown. Having grown many of these over the years I can say that there is a great deal of variation in the plants and all are unique, resembling living sculptures.

All sides of the two plants being offered individually through this listing are shown in the first nine listing photos. They are identifiable by their corresponding letters.

Plant "A" is the larger diameter cactus measuring 7-1/2 x 7 inches and standing 8-1/2 inches above the soil.

The smaller cactus, plant "B", is 6 x 5-1/2 inches in diameter and 10 inches tall.

These were photographed growing in their 1 gallon containers, however the pots will not be included. A portion of the soil will remain in place to protect the roots. The final listing photo shows a more mature C. repandus growing in a 5 gallon pot and provides an example of the size either of the plants in this listing may grow to be within the next 4 to 5 years.

C. repandus f. monstrosa are very easy to grow and care for. An ample amount of direct early day or bright indirect sunlight is best for this cactus. It does well in standard cactus soil and needs to be planted in a container that drains very well. The reported cold hardiness of the plant ranges from 15 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. I have always protected mine from frost and freeze and have never had any issues. It should be watered every 10 to 14 days during warmer months and only once per month for the balance of the year.
