This is a rare opportunity to add a large blue columnar cactus to your succulent collection. Native to portions of Argentina and Bolivia, these as cacti can be found classified as either Cereus validus, Cereus validus forbesii, Cereus forbesii or Piptanthocereus forbesii.

Multiple sides of the two plants being made available are shown in the listing photos and they are identifiable by their associated letters. The photographs and size information below were updated on 6/28/23.

Plant "A" stands 37 inches above the soil surface and is up to 4-1/4 inches in diameter at the widest point.
Plant "B" is 35 inches tall and a maximum diameter of 4 inches.

Both plants are well rooted and are shown growing in their 15 gallon containers. There is a small amount of scarring present near their bases but they are otherwise in great condition. They will be shipped without soil or pots and will require containers that are a minimum of 12 inches deep and 12 inches wide. We suggest using pots that are even larger to avoid the need for frequent repotting.

These C. validus cacti will quickly and easily reach a height of 7 feet. Both of these specimens should begin to grow branches either this year or next. They are also at or near the size where large and showy blooms can be expected each summer.

These cacti will appreciate as much direct sunlight as can be provided but should be gradually introduced to late day direct sun as they have been greenhouse grown. Water once their soil has dried completely between the middle of spring and the middle of fall. Reduce watering to once every 6 to 8 weeks for the balance of the year. Although they may survive temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit if their soil is dry, exposure to anything less than 40 degrees should be avoided. Standard cactus and succulent soil is an acceptable growing media for these plants.
