Spineless Prickly Pear Cactus, 3 Rooted or Unrooted Pads, Opuntia Ellisiana - Free US Shipping

Sorry, this item has sold.

By far one of the easiest plants to grow, Opuntia cacanapa "Ellisiana" is the perfect choice for anyone wanting to add a southwestern touch to their landscape. In addition to being very cold hardy, this is the ideal spineless variety for those wanting to grow an edible prickly pear cactus. Please keep in mind that the "spineless" designation is a term relative to other prickly pear varieties. These do have very small, hair-like thorns.

Most of these plants begin their lives as a single pad as opposed to growing from a seed. During the warmer months of the year, new pads emerge to quickly increase the overall plant size. They typically grow to a height of 4 to 6 feet, can be pruned to create a tree-like shape or allowed to mound naturally. This prickly pear can withstand temperatures as low as zero degrees Fahrenheit and once established will survive entirely on natural rainfall. Although they perform best in full sun, they can tolerate partially shaded locations.

We are offering both rooted and freshly cut pads, with three pads being included with each order. The listing photographs shows pads similar to those that will be shipped.

Rooted Pads:
Plant in well draining soil and they will do the rest!

Unrooted pads:
After being removed from the mother plants, the wound on unrooted pads will need about a week to callous. Then, simply plant the pad 3 inches deep in a pot containing well draining soil and water once every 7 to 10 days. They may be transferred to their final planting location once they have become well rooted, a process that typically takes about a month.

Shipping to any address within the United States is included in the listing prices, with the following exceptions:
We cannot ship these pads to addresses within the states of California, Hawaii, Alaska or to any of the US island territories.
