Of the many thousands of tree slices I have prepared in my lifetime, those I have cut from very old red cedar stock have proven to be the most consistently beautiful and captivating. Bearing almost no resemblance to fresh red cedar, the wood achieves a deep and rich brownish-red tone and prominently displays growth rings as well as other interesting patterns.
The slices in this listing were taken from red cedar branches that aged naturally in a secluded part of our Texas ranch for over 100 years. The bark and most of the softer sap wood decayed long ago, leaving behind solid heartwood with a weathered and irregularly shaped exterior surface. These have not been treated in any way
As the slices have an irregular shape, the diameters will vary depending on where they are measured. These measurements will range between 2-3/4 and 3-1/2 inches. All of the slices are between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch thick and the listing photographs show slices that are representative of all that are available.
