These two larger petrified wood pieces were found together in an area of Texas where the Yegua Formation, a geologic layer known for producing high quality petrified wood, was exposed at the surface. These were almost certainly sections of the same tree trunk and they are approximately 35 million years old. They would make great display pieces and could be used as a pair of natural bookends.
The listing photos show all sides of the two pieces being made available as a set. Growth rings are clearly visible and vessels can even be seen in the wood with the naked eye. The larger of the two pieces measures 7-1/2 x 4 x 3-1/2 inches and weighs 8.25 pounds. The other piece is 6-1/2 x 4 x 4 inches and has a weight of 7.3 pounds. These were washed and lightly scrubbed in fresh water after being collected but are otherwise as they were when found.
